New Volunteer Source is Dream Come True!

Recruiting volunteers: Is it Greek to you? Your answer should be YES!

How do you find great committed auction volunteers who work diligently and enthusiastically year after year? Let’s face it, volunteers are the backbone and heart of benefit auctions and fundraising events. Finding and keeping well trained and dedicated volunteers is a top challenge for every auction organizer. Here’s a hidden wellspring of new volunteers.

Look to the Greeks!

Sororities and fraternities are actively engaged in local philanthropic efforts and are looking to partner meaningfully with great nonprofit causes right in their own communities. Look no farther than your local college or university. I’m so excited to showcase this fountain of volunteer talent, enthusiasm and commitment.

As a stellar example, I’d like to share how the incredible sorority Kappa Chi Alpha

“KXA” of Western Connecticut State University supports a key local charity. For the last 16 years, these remarkably talented and passionate young women have completely dedicated their philanthropic efforts to a local nonprofit Dream Come True all year-round. This vibrant nonprofit grants dreams to seriously, chronically, and terminally ill children in western Connecticut.

Recently I had the honor to serve as their auctioneer and consultant for Dream Come True. At their benefit auction, I witnessed the power and passion of this entire sorority and many alumnae of KXA.

What about you? Wouldn’t you LOVE to be adopted by a group of 20-30 loyal, well-trained and enthusiastic volunteers who love you and are delighted to work hard for your mission year after year? Look to the Greeks! Enjoy this article with more volunteer insights, videos and a photo essay of the KXA working hard at the auction.

Deeply involved with every aspect of the gala, the impressive sisters of KXA set up the event, help at registration, worked and promoted the silent auction, sold balloons for the special raffle, sold heads and tails chances, spotted bids at the live auction, packed up silent auction items, helped at check out, cleaned up the entire event and most importantly they actively talked with guests about the impact of granting wishes for the children of Dream Come True.

Moreover, KXA works this hard at EVERY Dream Come True event year round including their bike-a-thin, Dream Bowling fundraiser, brunch with Santa, holiday gift wrapping for kids, and they even help some of the Dream Kids and their families enjoy the activities. All this priceless volunteer support for 16 years!

I hope you enjoy my brief photo essay of Kappa Chi Alpha at Dream Come True’s gala Under the Big Top. These photos speak volumes of their commitment to philanthropy and their love and support of Dream Come True! I hope you connect with your local sororities and fraternities to unlock this hidden wellspring of talent to recruit and retain new loyal volunteers all year round.

Special note of thanks from Kathy: I wish to deeply thank all the members and alumnae of Kappa Chi Alpha for their dedication to Dream Come True. You are truly inspirational — thank you for helping so many children and families. You are Dream Come True Volunteers!!!
